Acupuncture in Pregnancy
Growing a baby demands a lot from our bodies. It is ironic that during this amazing nine month journey many women find themselves exhausted and unwell.
Acupuncture offers safe, drug-free treatment to all the common ailments of pregnancy. Acupuncture can alleviate the symptoms of morning sickness, heartburn, fatigue, haemorrhoids, back pain, sciatica, insomnia, oedema, carpal tunnel syndrome, urinary tract infections, anxiety and depression.

Assisting natural labour
Research has found that a course of acupuncture prior to birth is a safe and effective way to promote natural labour. It helps to ripen the cervix and prepare your pelvis for birth. It increases your chances of having a natural birth and a birth closer to your due date. Acupuncture is also routinely used to induce overdue babies for those wanting a natural birth.
Moxibustion, the burning of the herb Artemsia vulgare or Mugwort, is used in Chinese Medicine to turn breech babies. Studies have found an 80-90% success rate turning breech babies using moxibustion. The optimal time to commence treatment is 34 weeks.
Post-natal treatments
Post-natally, acupuncture can treat after-birth pains, insufficient lactation, mastitis, post-natal depression and exhaustion. Women receiving an acupuncture treatment after the birth of a child generally report an amazingly better sense of well-being after just one session.
